The Opportunity

As a Polar Bear Specialist, you'll play an important role in delivering high-quality husbandry, enrichment and training programs while maintaining excellent animal welfare standards.
You'll contribute to daily animal care, exhibit presentation, guest education and enrichment activities that help create meaningful connections between guests and wildlife.

Key Responsibilities
Help create outstanding welfare outcomes and memorable guest experiences every day. You’ll be:
• Providing daily husbandry, enrichment, training and exhibit maintenance to maintain high animal welfare standards.
• Assisting with behavioural management programs using positive reinforcement and conditioning techniques.
• Monitoring animal health and wellbeing, reporting observations and supporting veterinary care requirements as needed.
• Preparing diets, managing food storage and stock rotation, and assisting with ordering to maintain appropriate supplies.
• Maintaining presentation standards across exhibits, including pool cleans, substrate changes and general exhibit upkeep.
• Delivering engaging guest talks and educational experiences that inspire a connection with wildlife and conservation.
• Supporting animal rescue and rehabilitation activities through the Sea World Foundation when required.
• Contributing to a safe, professional and collaborative team environment.
What We’re Looking For
You'll bring a genuine commitment to animal welfare, strong attention to detail and a proactive approach to your work.
• Relevant tertiary qualification or Certificate III in Wildlife and Exhibited Animal Care.
• Current Queensland Open C Class Driver's Licence.
• Previous experience working with animals in a zoological, wildlife or animal care environment.
• Knowledge of animal training, behavioural enrichment and operant conditioning techniques is highly regarded.
• Recreational Boat Licence and Forklift Licence are advantageous.
• Strong observation, communication and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work effectively within a team and adapt to changing priorities.
• Commitment to maintaining high standards of animal welfare and workplace safety.
• Ability to maintain a level of fitness suitable for the physical requirements of the role.
